With the success of e-tron technology in a select few of our new Audi models like the A3 here at Audi North Scottsdale, maximizing fuel efficiency like we've not seen before, it's no surprise the automaker wants to explore a luxury electric option for those of us in city settings. Aimed to compete directly with a rival automaker's electric vehicle, the yet-to-be-named Audi car will make its debut late next year.
Based on the Volkswagon up!, the new Audi will showcase trademark levels of luxury. Leather seats, high quality plastics, and an infotainment system with cutting-edge technology is to be expected. On the outside, LED lights and lots of chrome trim will no doubt be prominent features sure to catch the eye.
The lithium-ion-powered electric motor will kick out significant power at 115 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque. It's got more than enough get-up-and-go, able to jump from 0-62 mph in just barely over nine seconds, and run at top speeds of 90 mpg. With an estimated driving distance of 125 miles, you can get a good couple days' worth of driving through the city between charges.
This unnamed Audi hatchback will be seen for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September of 2014 and will sell for 30,000 euros, or roughly $39,000. Unfortunately, it looks like it might be a European exclusive, but there's still plenty of time for that rumor to change. Until then, keep up with our blog for all details. If you have any questions about it or any of our other vehicles, come on down to our Phoenix, AZ dealership and we'll help you out in any way we can.
